Can GeoStudio 2004 import my older data files?
Yes! GeoStudio 2004 (Version 6) can import data from files created
with older versions. GeoStudio will automatically create regions that are
equivalent to the geometry in older SLOPE/W files. If you are importing files
created by older finite element products, you will need to use the Draw Regions
command to create equivalent regions on top of the imported finite element
mesh.
If you are experiencing difficulties opening a particular file created in an older version of SLOPE/W, it is likely that the original geometry was not defined correctly. Please see article KB604 in our Knowledge Base for more information.
Please note that Version 5 products cannot open Version 6 data files (see article KB605 in our Knowledge Base for more information). To take full advantage of the new integration features in GeoStudio 2004, we recommend that you upgrade all products to the latest versions.
The Benefits of Unstructured Meshing
The new unstructured finite element meshing feature in Version 6 allows you to
mesh irregular shaped regions and control the mesh density to suit the needs of
your analysis.

use unstructured meshing.
Ensuring Mesh Compatibility
The implementation of regions in Version 6 now makes it possible to
automatically ensure mesh compatibility along region edges, something that was
not possible in older versions of the software.

that illustrates automatic mesh compatibility.
