The Power of Integration with GeoStudio 2004
One of the most powerful enhancements made to GeoStudio 2004 is how much easier it is to perform an integrated analysis, where the results obtained from one simulation are used as input for another. For example, a SLOPE/W stability analysis can be significantly enhanced by first doing a finite element stress analysis (SIGMA/W, QUAKE/W) to determine the actual stresses that exist in the ground. Another example is to first determine the pore-water pressure distribution in the ground using a finite element analysis (SEEP/W, SIGMA/W, VADOSE/W), and then use these computed values within the stability analysis.

Using finite element results allows you to obtain a more accurate solution and helps reduce uncertainty in your results. The power behind the integration with GeoStudio 2004 is that information is shared between analyses, so it's only necessary to define geometry and common material properties once.

pressures in a SLOPE/W stability analysis.

Calgary Workshop
Our fifth annual Calgary Modeling Workshop has been scheduled for September 28th, 29th and 30th in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Please mark the dates in your calendar and send us an email to be notified of further details.

Back issues of Direct Contact are available online in our newsletter archive.

UK Geotechnical Modeling Workshop
Registrations are now being accepted for the upcoming UK Workshop to be held May 23, 24 and 25, 2005 in Bromsgrove near Birmingham, England. The workshop is a well-attended event where geotechnical engineers gather to learn, enhance and fine-tune their numerical modeling skills under the personal guidance of numerical modeling experts. Details of the workshop, including a brochure and registration form, are available on our website.

John Krahn Awarded EIC Fellowship
We are pleased to announce that Dr. John Krahn, our CEO, has received a Fellowship from The Engineering Institute of Canada. The Institute elects annually a select number of engineers to the grade of Fellow for their exceptional contributions to engineering in Canada. Established in 1887, the EIC is Canada's Federation of Engineering Societies, and the leading proponent of continuing education and technical professional development in the Canadian engineering profession.

This message comes to you as you have shown past interest in GEO-SLOPE products. If you do not wish to receive this type of information from time to time, please click here and we will remove you from future communications.
