The Annual Geotechnical Modeling Workshop in Banff

With a full conference room of eager people, the 7th Annual Geotechnical Modeling workshop was definitely among the best we've ever held. Nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, the Banff Conference Centre was a perfect setting for attendees to learn, enhance and fine-tune their numerical modeling skills under the personal guidance of GEO-SLOPE personnel. We are looking forward to returning to Banff for next year's workshop and will post dates and locations when they become available.

Function Estimation in SEEP/W 2007

In a SEEP/W analysis that will develop negative pore-water pressures, there are only two material property functions that need to be defined, hydraulic conductivity and volumetric water content. If you are going to model a steady state problem, you only need to define the hydraulic conductivity function. If you are going to model a transient simulation where the pore-water pressures in the ground change with time, then you will also need to define a volumetric water content function.

In GeoStudio 2007, these material property functions can be input manually as individual points or they can be estimated using two available estimation options: using grain-size data or utilizing the sample function database.

GeoStudio 2007 - New Service Pack

We have listened to your extensive feedback over the last three months, and have made numerous important improvements to the software for this Service Pack. We are confident that this update will improve your experience, and continue to make the software an important tool for your modeling.

The 7.03 Service Pack for GeoStudio 2007 has been released and is now available from the GeoStudio 2007 Downloads page.

Here are a few of the key improvements that we've made:

  • Meshes are smoother and several new constraints options have been added.
  • Units have been added to KeyIn Boundary Conditions and elsewhere.
  • Opening older files from previous versions has been improved, and file conversion issues are now identified and listed. Older files can be viewed in CONTOUR without having to re-solve.
  • Unit Weight, Cohesion and Phi can now be specified as functions of the x coordinate for the Mohr-Coulomb and Undrained Material models.
  • DXF export has been dramatically improved and now always includes all objects in the current analysis, each on its own layer, and independent of whether their view preferences are on or off.
  • KeyIn Analyses improvements have been made to consider timeline, analysis relationships, and cloning.
  • New symbols used in graphing make overlapping graphs more readable.
  • Menus now include icons where appropriate, matching their related toolbar icons.

Download the Service Pack today, or read the release history for more details.
